Melissa Mahmud
I am Melissa Mahmud and I am studying MA Language, Culture and History: German Studies. I did my BA in German and Linguistics at Queen Mary University, so I have been involved within the Arts and Humanities faculties for five years now.
I have a lot of experience as a student rep as I was a Course and SSLC Rep for three years during my undergraduate. I also took part in various Arts and Humanities activities and programmes such as, the Buddy-scheme to understand the faculty more whilst helping new Arts and Humanities students. As a Faculty Rep, I would ensure that the voices of Arts and Humanities students are heard, especially because most universities often seem to prioritise STEM subjects only. I will make sure that you are represented at every SU meeting so that we can shape the educational policy because, your voices matter! I believe there is always room for change, whether it is to plan more activities, to make sure that all students get the most out of their university time or, to improve their course structure.
Some of my ideas include:
-reduce the postgraduate application fees.
-organise more Arts and Humanities career fairs and skills-based lectures.
-feedback and office hours: improvement on the response-rate and quality of feedback. We depend on it more than any other faculty, therefore, we need more office hours.
If you have any questions about my ideas or anything in particular feel free to get in contact with me. [email protected]
