Hey! My name is Danilo, and I would love to be the welfare officer for the Australia and New Zealand society! I love the cultures of both countries and really want to visit them in the future. As your welfare officer, I would ensure that everyone in the society feels safe, comfortable and happy, and that the society is the best that it can possibly be! If anyone in the society has any issues, I would work as hard as possible to try to resolve the problem, however big or small. I would also ensure that everyone in the society feels listened to and has a voice, and that feedback is taken seriously to address any issues or improvements. I am a very organised person - last year, I ran 5 societies, including the "languages and cultures" club - and hence you can trust me in this position! :) I have many ideas for the societies - both in person and online - and I think that it will be a really fun experience! Additionally, in the society I would love to help learn about and teach indigenous languages from the countries, such as Maori, as preservation for these languages is essential to the culture.

Throughout my childhood I had to face being excluded from things other kids considered to be normal as I could not fit in them because of my weight which was extraordinary (130 kgs). Kids would body shame wherever I would go. My parents despite being very supporting would not let me go to places where other kids had access to as they thought this kind of bullying would destroy my confidence. This sensation of being excluded created this void in me. I always thought that if it were up to me, I would never let this happen to anybody but I felt helpless. Today I have an opportunity to fulfil this childhood wish to not leave anyone feel excluded or left out and I will try my outmost best to achieve this to the best of my abilities. As I completed my O Levels, after thorough self-consideration I learned how to fight my demons. I turned my life around. I lost 60 kgs. I got outstanding results that landed me here at UCL. In the first term here, I again faced some problems. I was homesick. I wasn't able to catch up on studies as the system was so different. I often used to cry in the student centre. But then again, I learned how to face all of this. I didn't contest for any leadership position. I'm just here to help. I just don't want anyone else to bare what I had to withstand. I would be able to understand your problems as I've been through enough. Even if I lose these elections, I beg all of you to come see me whenever you want to talk to someone. I will surely try to help you!
