Societies are a defining part of the UCL experience. I’ve met my best friends through them, created my best memories as part of them, and achieved my proudest achievements with them (stuffing 14 marshmallows in your mouth is just as notable as raising £3k for a banana in the name of charity, to name 2 of many BSoc achievements I’ve been lucky to witness). At the heart of a society is its events. As well as old favourites (with new twists) such as the Boat Party, and Bounce, I’ll create new, exciting events: Paan Heist, Desi Debates, cat café outings, and a Bangladeshi food festival (yes, there’s more to it than what you eat at home)! I'll introduce a mental health and wellness series, including Girls’ and Boys’ Spa Nights, girls’ pyjama party, and mens’ groups for weekly, safe spaces to speak out as well as football games nights. To preserve our cultural identity, I hope to host talks to start dialogue addressing the social concerns facing out Bangladeshi diaspora. BSoc will open its doors during Ramadan and Eid to those spending it away from home. As your Events Director, I hope to build on BSoc’s legacy by creating experiences which everyone will enjoy, catering to a wide range of tastes, curfews and international time-zones (hopefully, we’ll have more in-person events!).
