Paul Ho
Debating Society for me has been an extremely supportive environment, and I would love to give back in my final year.
Having been a Transition mentor and volunteered at a Hospice in the past, I think this role aligns with my values and personality.
I am approachable, empathetic and will listen to your concerns to ensure that the society remains the safe place that it is. I hope that you will vote for me.
Meera Harischandra
Hi! I’m Meera, a first year English Literature student. Over the past two terms, I have enjoyed getting to know everyone in the society, debating in competitions, and attending the training sessions whenever I could. My time with and commitment to the society shapes my interest in joining the committee and I would love to continue to contribute in the position of Welfare Officer.

As Welfare Officer, I would hope to continue to foster a safe and inclusive space for all the society’s members. From my time debating at competitions, especially as a woman of colour, I understand the importance of a tolerant and conscious environment within the highly discursive and contentious atmosphere of a debate. New mentoring initiatives which would bridge the gap between new and older members could provide a closer environment in which individuals would feel more comfortable voicing their concerns. My experience helping run my school’s Debating Society has also equipped me with the relevant skills for this position and the understanding that the social side of debating is equally important for members’ enjoyment. I would be happy to work closely with the social secretary and organise more casual debates for newer society members, helping to establish friendships and inclusivity. I consider myself to be very approachable and I’m happy to talk to anyone to address concerns or complaints, in terms of welfare or well-being. Thank you - I would be grateful for this opportunity!
