The lure of being able to positively impact the experience of the wealth of UCL Indian Society members motivates me to pursue the ideal role to achieve this; that of the Treasurer! Responsibly managing and allocating funding to the things that will undoubtedly contribute most to a fantastic IndianSoc experience encapsulates my vision.

Although only in my first year at present, I already possess a wealth of experience in managing the finances of various organisations, having founded and co-founded some small businesses of my own and brought them to relative fruition. Ranging from chairing small start-ups to coordinating more ongoing coaching services, the varying monetary demands of the groups I have worked with has left me with a versatile aptitude for ensuring the financial health of companies and societies alike.

As a result I feel I have a lot to offer the Indian Society through my work as Treasurer if I were appointed, and this would give me a brilliant opportunity to give back to the community which has made me feel so welcome, through working with one of the biggest UCL societies with annual turnover figures amounting to tens of thousands of pounds.
Astha Kothari
Namaste everyone! I’m Astha...naam toh sunha hi hoga! As a person who comes from a mathematical background, coupled with my ability to think logically and trustworthy nature, I believe I am a fitting candidate for this role.

I was able to demonstrate my suitability for this role when leading a fund raiser for A21 – an NGO tackling human trafficking. My role entailed applying my own judgement as well as knowledge of economics to raise £500 within 2 weeks which we were successful in doing. I truly think that my experiences will help me to handle this responsibility with immense care and patience.

My priorities, if elected, would include:
- capitalising on the work of previous years to strengthen financial sustainability
- keeping clear and organised records to ensure clarity and maximise profits
- work closely with the President and Sponsorship Director to increase the opportunities we are able to provide for society members to enhance their university experience.
- create an inclusive environment to build a strong team in order to deliver the best

I would be honoured to uphold the name of UCL’s biggest cultural society and I am fully committed to put all my efforts into this because...ek baar jo maine commitment kar di, fir main apne aap ki bhi nahi sunti.

As Treasurer, tasked with allocating the Society’s budget to it’s various operations, I feel it is essential to be able to relate closely with the various facets of the society, in order to effectively prioritise costs. I believe that this is where I stand out in running for this position.

As a First Year Rep, I have been closely involved in organising the society’s events and have observed the tasks of a treasurer first hand. Culturally, the fun, social aspect of the society is one many people can relate to, however fostering areas such as outreach, alumni networks, and being able to understand the diverse member audience - whether British with Indian backgrounds or an International student looking to stay close to home - is a niche that I believe I satisfy.

In terms of my ability to manage large group finances, this is something I encounter often. As an active Trustee of Faith to Unite Charitable Trust I have gained the experience of running fundraisers of upto £6000, and allocating these funds to optimise the Trust’s welfare efforts. Additionally, as Head Girl at my School I was responsible for managing finances for all student initiatives and reporting to senior faculty, similar to our society’s relationship with SU. If I am able to serve as the Treasurer for Indian Society, I believe that the transferable skills I have developed will allow me to effectively manage and optimise our finances - leaving us feeling richer than the Ambanis ;)
