Communicating with people is extremely convenient in today's technology and social media driven world, much to the point where communication may lack effectiveness and become tiresome. Hi, my name is Rachel and I'm running for Communications Director because I believe great connections between people is what enhances life, especially during this difficult time. I host a podcast with my friend on Spotify, create educational content on YouTube, and run a small business with my friend. These experiences have helped me develop effective, two way communication skills - being both a good communicator and listener- and become more understanding. If elected, I would aim to: 1) Make new and existing members feel welcomed with a strong sense of community. 2) Cultivate honest, effective and proactive conversations between committee and other societies. 3) Increase interesting and fun discussions (maybe through Clubhouse) between members and committee as a way for everyone to socialize comfortably online. I think these aims will have a positive impact on both internal and external communications of the society, which will contribute greatly in sharing the beautiful culture of Indonesia while building a strong community between the fellow Indonesians in UCL. Thank you for reading my manifesto! Please feel free to contact me if you have questions or would like to make a new friend, you can do so through Email : [email protected] or Instagram : @rachelchloee.

What better person would be fit to be Communications Director than a hardworking, extroverted social who loves to talk? I know that there’s way more to the role than that, but I can guarantee you that I have everything the society needs and even better to manage the committee’s communications. One of my biggest priority as communications director would be to increase and improve towards a more open internal communications between members and committee leaders, specifically in making sure that everybody’s voices are heard. The committee is created for the members, and I strongly believe that everything we do as committee leaders must revolve around that ethos. In addition, as UCL’s Indo Society has become one of many ways for students to expand their network, as communications director, I would push for more inter-university events specifically with other Indonesian Societies beyond just the main events. With prior experience as UCL’s Course Representative, I believe that I have the skills and knowledge to create effective channels of communication and mediate between members, committee leaders, the Student Union, and other societies. Furthermore, as the role requires close involvement with the society’s marketing and events directors, I believe that my experience as Head of Marketing and Fundraising in the past proves my knowledge and understanding of other roles as well as my leadership and management skills.
