I am excited to be standing for Welfare Officer because I feel that my previous experience in supportive roles and love for nature would mean that I could hopefully contribute a lot to the society. Immersing ourselves in nature can have great positive impacts on our mental health. After we have all has such a difficult year under social distancing and lockdown, my main priorities would be to organise sessions aimed at helping mindfulness such as nature walks in the parks around the city, bird watching or potentially some outdoor yoga sessions social distancing permitting. I would hold tea/coffee mornings (in person or online) to give members the chance to chat. I would also always encourage members to contact me individually for any welfare related needs which I will do my best to help support you through, as I know how beneficial having someone to reach out to can be.
I have experience communicating with people from a diverse range of backgrounds through my previous work and volunteering. I am comfortable organising group events as I used to be Volunteering Champion for my team where I used to work, where I liaised with local charities and organised volunteering days for my colleagues at the local Peace Hospice. I am currently a Volunteering Project leader for Healthy Planet UCL where we have been organising sessions which we hope to take into schools when lockdown lifts to teach children about intersections between the environment and their health.

I am running for Welfare Officer because last year has taught us how important our wellbeing is. I want to dedicate myself to supporting our society's members, and to be a source of support and advise when needed. We need to openly discuss our wellbeing, and make it an integral part of what this society represents. I will always be open to suggestions, and will regularly reach out to our members. I also plan to work alongside the Social Secretary to organize events that benefit our member's wellbeing.
