Jean Watt
Having been part of Savage for the past two years, as LOOK curator and co-curator, I know the journal inside-out. My roles have involved a mixture of administrative and creative tasks, including: liaising with artists, curating and organising the exhibition and working with the graphic design team on the prints. I feel these different aspects to my experience are highly suited to the role of President, and all of which are tasks I really enjoy and thrive doing. I have also written extensively for the website and print, doing artist interviews, exhibition reviews and think-pieces.
As President of Savage, I want to focus the aim of the journal on providing an inclusive, encouraging platform for UCL writers and creatives. As we emerge from lockdown, there will be more opportunity to host events, workshops and launches to reconnect with our current writers and meet new ones. Events have always been a key part of the Savage community, and I want to focus this on providing spaces of encouragement: writing, editing, design or art-making workshops (as well as club nights!) Savage should be a platform for nurturing confidence and creativity, providing a space for learning and making mistakes, where students can begin their journey into the world of arts publications.
