Hi, I’m Freya! I’m a 3rd year studying HPE at SSEES and I've confirmed to stay at SSEES to do my Masters next year! I'm SO excited to run for SSEES Soc President. Those who know me, know that I love SSEES (and that I wear my SSEES hoodie constantly!) I’ve been very involved at SSEES over my 3 years. I’ve been a SSEES Student Ambassador since Feb. 2019 which has included running Instagram takeovers, helping with SSEES open days, offer holder days, and prospective student Q/A sessions. I've also been honoured to serve as a SSEES transition mentor and senior mentor to first year students!

Next year we'll have a lot of work to do building those relationships and connections that we haven’t been able to this year because of online learning. SSEES Society could play a critical role in helping bring back that true SSEES family feel to all our students. To do this, we need a welcoming, energetic, and enthusiastic leader to take the initiative.

As president, I'll try to meet as many students as possible and cultivate a safe place for us to de-stress. I'll oversee diverse, inclusive, and exciting events all year round. My 3 years of experience at SSEES and other UCL Activities like Dance Society Competition Team Coordinator & Welsh Society Founder/President give me the ability to lead. I even received the UCL Student's Union Officer Award for going “above and beyond for student activities" in 2020! I have so much to give to this role and hope you'll consider voting me. Thanks!

As the incumbent President of the SSEES Society, I have the advantage of knowing the insides of running a society and how to successfully coordinate the activity of a committee. The challenges of this year transformed me in an expert crisis manager with the ability to adapt previous events to the new online format. Some of the things I am most proud of from this year are the career series catered to all the study programmes at SSEES, the society’s new Instagram account and the Vodka Conference and Tasting that the rest of the committee and I have worked tirelessly to reconceptualise.

As for next year, I have 2 main goals:
(1) Expand student participation by creating a SSEES Society website where students can bring contributions such as regular news updates from the region, op-eds about CEE politics, economics & society and reviews of East European culture festivals, books & films among many others.
(2) Return to face-to-face society activities as much as possible and bring back old favourites such as the Vodka Tasting and career panels in addition to new events like embassy visits and Q&As with high-profile speakers.

A vote for me is a vote for SSEES students!
