I’m Mominah! This will be my 5th year of involvement with SfGH, from being on the Access Healthcare Subcommittee for 2 years and as campaign lead for 2 years. I have a huge interest in the interplay between war, geopolitics and humanitarian crises in the MENA, having written articles upon articles about it. I have done years of grassroots work for the Palestinian cause as VP of Friends of Palestine and would like to continue to make a difference to issues like this that are so close to my heart as the President of SfGH.

One of the things the pandemic has taught me is the effectiveness of online conferences to deliver a message. If elected I would love to hold a conference similar to the UoB DNC’s exploring climate change and healthcare inequalities, but instead hold it in conjunction with all UoL SfGH socs, where I have friends involved. I will also ensure this conference is sponsored by the BMA and the Medical Defence Union, giving us an opportunity to further our societal aims. I know a lot of people are super interested in debate-style discussion events - as the prior VP of Friends of Palestine, I addressed the UCLU General Assembly in 2019 regarding the SU’s acceptance of the IHRA definition of anti-Semitism and also spoke at the DebateSoc event following it up. I would love to create a sub-team to really work to hold these events. I think I’d bring a new, fresh approach to SfGH and do things in a way they’ve never been done before! Thank you for reading!

Hi! I’m Meryam and I’m running for President! I’ve been on the SfGH committee for many years now, first as Gender Equity campaign lead and now as Treasurer. I'm also on the SfGH UK National Committee. My role this year has included more than finances, assisting in Presidential tasks, from publicity to events organisation. My proudest achievements have been co-designing and launching our new website, our summer COVID-19 response and assisting with the launch of our mentorship program. I believe that my diligence, organisation, sincerity and commitment to SfGH, make me a great candidate. I also believe that I have the right experience and care to continue the amazing work already in progress.

Should I be elected, I have two main goals:
1) Increasing GH University Activism - Campaign to improve Socially Responsible Licensing at UCL to ensure fair, affordable and equitable access to UCL COVID-19 medical technologies globally.
2) Increasing Global Health Careers Opportunities:
a) Launch 'International Research and Clinical Exchanges' at UCL through national SfGH x IFMSA networks
b) Internal and external internship & research opportunities through partnership with UCL IGH and national SfGH and its affiliates (MSF, STOPAIDS, UAEM etc).

My experiences as member of the UCL committee, SfGH UK National Committee and the UAEM UK Research Team have equipped me with the necessary skills to put these goals into practice.
