Monica Raviraj
Hi, I'm Monica - 1st year Medical student (yes doing UCL tennis over RUMS! :))
Tennis has been a big part of my life, I have been playing for 12 years now and have represented the country at various events, playing many International tournaments, and being junior national champion for 2 consecutive years. Training and competing at the highest level has given me a lot of invaluable memories.
Though my experience in W1 this year was limited due to Covid, I have still built good relationships with the team and integrated myself well, providing a good springboard into captaincy next season. I’ve attended almost all the training sessions and social events giving me the chance to get to know the society as a whole.
Given the opportunity to be captain, I would aim to unite and integrate the different teams within the society, e.g. in training, fitness and competition. I will look to be a voice for the society and try to implement positive changes where possible. Unfortunately Covid hasn’t given me much chance to see the team dynamic in action, however as captain I would aim to re-build that and have a strong team-spirit in all aspects of the society.
I have captained both my school and county tennis teams to victory at several tournaments giving me plentiful experience at competition, leadership and teamwork. Plus, I have transferable organisational and management skills from being deputy head girl at my college.
I would be honoured to captain our W1's team next season :)
