Georgia Spring
Allegra and I have decided to apply together for this role as we feel we have similar visions and our strengths complement each other. As loyal tennis members and sports night goers from day 1, we have a good idea of how the club runs. Although some may argue we weren’t the strongest players of 7s, we have used lockdown wisely to revise our times tables and refresh our memory of the various drinking games.
Whilst we want to retain the club’s traditions, we aim to bring fresh and exciting ideas (including sports night and tour activities) to the table. Our other goals for 2021/22 include attracting more members to RUMS tennis (particularly freshers) and encouraging more integration between social and squad members. One way will achieve this is by organising more freshers events at the beginning of the year. For example, we think it would be beneficial to have a freshers only event where they can meet other tennis members in their year before being introduced to the rest of the club (by doing this the prospect of attending sports night will be much less intimidating) and also creating a buddy system. We have made a conscious effort this year to get to know some of the freshers, despite the pandemic making this particularly challenging, and feel that our approachability was very useful in ensuring they felt at ease.
We can’t wait to get back to the Huntley and see everyone, and if we’re lucky you may even see us as your social secs!
